Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the seed or ground spice from several species of the genus Myristica, with Myristica fragrans (true nutmeg) being the most notable. This dark-leaved evergreen tree produces two spices from its fruit: nutmeg (from its seed) and mace (from the seed covering). Nutmeg is also a source of essential oil and nutmeg butter. The California nutmeg, Torreya californica, has a similar seed appearance but is not related to Myristica fragrans and is not used as a spice. Indonesia is the main producer of nutmeg and mace.
